Fish Face!

Today I have a man coming early to make an estimate on some work that I need done on my house. I am hoping that he can do all the work that I need to have done. His crew did some work for my cousin on my aunt's house and it looks great.  I saw them working so I know they did a good job of it.

For the Friday Face Off  group,  I am posting a couple of older photos.  First up is a photo of my eyes.  This was taken after I had an upper blepharoplasty to get rid of hanging eyelid skin that was interfering with my vision.
Here's lookin' at you kid!

Next up is a photo of a painting that I did many years ago. It is done in watercolor. This little painting sold at a street festival.   However, I have notecards with this image printed on them that I also sell.

Happy Friday!  And may your weekend be delightful.

Kites! SAHRR Round 6

For the final round of the Stay at Home Round Robin,  Emily at the Darling Dogwood  has given us a prompt of using a Kite Block.
Since I have a couple of dies that make that a bit easier, I decided on two more batiks to use and cut up parts to make ten blocks. I used the same dies to make the stars for Round Three.

I know the photo looks like nine, but I wanted to square it up a bit.   The tenth block is right on top of the center block.    I may need to make more or possibly make some extras of other blocks to fill in and make it all fit. Because these finish at 4" square (each unit) They will not easily work in with the partial log cabin blocks from last week.  The good news is that I have a month before the quilt top parade. I have time to ponder and play with ideas to make it all work out.

Friday Faces

It is time again for the Friday Face Off.   The participants show pictures of faces that they have created or captured.  Today I have three.  All of these are from my archives.

First up is a cute little puppy applique that I used in a baby quilt.
I think that she is just adorable.  I used a batik fabric for the shape.  She is attached with fusible web and then sewn down with free motion stitches. Those stitches create a nice "hand drawn" look.

Next up goes waaaaay waaaaay back in time.
This is an ATC (artist trading card) also know as an ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals)
The giraffe is drawn with pen and ink. The background is colored in with Sharpie markers.

Finally here is a face that I created in my embroidery software and sewed out on my embroidery machine.
He came out reasonably well, I think.

Quarter Log Cabins SAHRR

The prompt that Brenda gave us for Round Five of the Stay at Home Round Robin is to add Quarter Log Cabin blocks to our quilt tops.   So I have decided to make eight of them.  I have a tentative plan to use two at each corner.  I am waiting for the prompt of Round Six to see how they may play together.

Meanwhile here is my pile of  Quarter Log Cabin blocks made with my fabrics.
For some reason I decided to use an even 8 inch unfinished block for this quilt.
So these are 8" square and will finish at 7 1/2"
Why?  Honestly it was what worked with my center panel....but it has made it a bit more difficult to make the blocks to the right size.
Regardless,  I think these will look great with the quilt top as it is so far.

Face Off

This has been a busy week, so I almost have nothing for the Friday Face Off.  Here is my poor excuse for a face that I drew while Mom and I were watching TV.

I had fully intended to go back into this and do more with it.
Ah well, life goes on.
Here is one of my quilted faces from 2022.

Round Four SAHRR - Insert a strip in a block

This morning we got the prompt from Wendy to use the technique of splitting a block and inserting a strip.  I love doing this and it speaks to my improv nature.  So I created three "blocks" (not squares) that have inserted strips in them. I have placed them at one end of my piece so that I could see if I am going to like it.
There they are at the top.  I think I like it. I do believe it adds a bit more of my style to the quilt.
I will need to make more to go all around the existing piece.

Here are the three blocks
(ummm ignore the loose threads, I was in a hurry.)

I love that this will contrast a bit with the "regular" piecing of the center of the quilt.

What do you think?  Should I perhaps make it more even and "normal?"

FFO and SAHRR update

First here is a little update on the Stay at Home Round Robin:

I added a bit of applique (fusible) to the stars that I added the last round. I also made three more stars to keep the quilt symmetrical.
The purple circles on the four pointed stars make them look more cohesive with the rest of the quilt.

Now for the Friday Face Off - I have a notebook cover with yet another skull.
I hope someone loves this one. I confess it is not my favorite.
As always I put a pocket inside the front cover. (below)

SAHRR Round #3

With Monday came the next round of the SAHRR and I got busy.  Gail told us to add stars to our quilt top.   Pulling out my Accuquilt GO! dies,  I decided on  a four pointed star.  It is similar to the block "Job's Troubles"  but I simplified it a bit since I could do this one with two dies.
I decided to make the background of each star one color but the points would be two colors alternating.
The colors I decided on are blues and tans. One of the blues had a spattering of purple in it. One of the tans has white in it.    Here is my result:

I am considering making three more stars for the other end.  But I am also considering that perhaps the next round can take that area.  I can always make the blocks later this week and have them ready "just in case."   Three spare stars could always become a table runner or part of one. They could also be the start of yet another quilt.
Other considerations for this is that I may applique some purple five pointed stars onto the star blocks. At this point they seem to need a pop of the dark purple that permeates the rest of the quilt. (Of course next week's round could be to add applique. Ha ha.  But that is just a wild guess - I do NOT have inside information (as much as I would love to have it.)
