Quilt top

Now I am scared. I finished the last block. Yes, I have enough blocks to make the quilt top. Oh yes, I am scared. The easy part is over. Now I have to put them all together in a pleasing pattern and sew them together into a quilt top.

Then I have to make the "quilt sandwich" with the backing and the batting. YIKES then I have to quilt it.

I need chocolate- NOW!

Zentangles

I have enjoyed playing with the monochromatic line and texture elements. Part of the theory is use of repetition of patterns. This does indeed promote a meditative state.

That said, here are three of my "tangles" for you to see.

Quilt Squares

I am starting my first real quilt. I am making some strip pieced squares. They are nice big 12 inch square to make it go faster.

The quilt is intended to be a "going to college" quilt for my niece who just graduated from high school. The pink and burgundy squares are the same colors as her purse that I made for her birthday. What can I say? I like the color combination. I am thinking that the purple and yellow may be too bright for the rest of the quilt. But I have plenty more squares to go so.....we will see what else I do with it.

I messed up the back blue square. I got the strips out of order, It doesn't bother me. I plan on making other block patterns too, so It won't be as noticeable.

Making a quilt is a bit of work, but seeing it coming together is a lot of fun.

Lazy Spring Nap

Lazy Spring Nap

I had been using left over paint on a sheet of watercolor paper just randomly to avoid wasting the paint. The risk is wasting the paper. After the paper was mostly covered, I left it sitting where I could see it. I was hoping my muse would see something.

A couple of days went by and something tingled. I grabbed a brush. No, that wasn't what I needed. Finally I spotted a little bottle with a pointed nib. It had white gesso in it. PERFECT. I picked it up and started drawing on the paper. I suppose that the warm days and my desire to find a place to snooze inspired this. Soon, I had outlines of trees, with a hammock stretched between them and some other (somewhat strange) linework too.

A day passed as that stared back and taunted me from the easel.

I started by grabbing a brush and painting in the tree trunks with a thin wash of burnt sienna (I think.) Then some dabs of green for leaves on the trees.

I let it rest and waited. This evening I started with plans to enhance the leaves a bit. Ha, the best laid plans of mice and men.... Not to mention artists at the mercy of a muse. (A muse, amused ? hmmmm.....)

Much later I stepped back and beheld this.
I am not sure if it is finished, if it will be painted over or what, but I thought I would share it with you.

Comment freely, but be gentle.
