Happy Halloween

I know that it isn't quite Halloween yet,  but I have been working on a couple of masks for my costume. I bought these masks at a discount store for $1 each.   Then I decided to use Nicole's corpsing method (or my version of it anyway) to make them better.  I still haven't decided which of them I will wear. I may take both and swap between them.

Here is one of the masks prior to anything being done to it.
Yes it looks like a cheap plastic mask.

Then I added a base layer of white glue
I am guessing that this layer helps it to "grab" when you start adding the other pieces.

Then I added toilet paper and glue according to Nicole's directions. (Although, I probably did the "Gene version" of those directions.)
Sorry I don't have a progress photo for that.  And finally after several layers and colors of paint:

There are is only one "progress photo" of the skull. To be honest, it was the first one and I was too excited to remember to take photos.
Yes, it would have worked like this but I thought it needed a little "something, something."
Those teeth still look too "plastic" and white.

Ah!!!! This is better, don't you think?
Now it looks like I clawed and chewed my way out of the crypt!

Happy Halloween!

Family Photos

Family has always been important to me. I have quite the collection of family faces in my digital archives.
Today I would like to share a couple of those. Each of these have my parents in them.   One has maternal grandparents while the other has paternal grandparents.

This first photo shows my parents with my Mom's parents. My mom almost always closed her eyes in candid photos and sure enough they are closed in this one.  You may notice that she is wearing a maternity top.  I think that I was the "bun in the oven" in this photo.  Dad had a beard which helps us place the time period of the photo. This grandmother made quilts all her life.

I am not sure of the occasion for this photo but as they were all dressed up, I am sure there was an occasion.  Grandparents are back left, great grandparents are back right. Dad's youngest sisters are front left. And of course Mom and Dad front right.

I love to look at the faces and see the similarities and the differences.

Rainbow Bargello Quilted

The Rainbow Bargello is finally quilted - and of course I had to put a face in the quilting.  Why?  The previous quilt that I added a face in the quilting lines is on my bed. Every time I see it, I grin.  Isn't that reason enough?

Here's lookin' at you kid!

You might notice that I abandoned the "all vertical lines" plan for this quilt.
Honestly, for me, it got boring very quickly.

I think the wild variety in the quilting is just my style.
Who said that I wanted to be normal?
Well, they were wrong.

Friday Puzzled Faces

I have been quite busy this week - but not with quilting, or creating anything.   However, Mom and I put together this puzzle that I bought at the local library from their "Friends of the Library" shop.

We actually made record time on this one.  It is only 500 pieces and we started one day and finished the next. It looks a lot more difficult than it is.  The image is certainly busy.

And there are a few faces in there too.

So I am linking up with Nicole at DVArtist for the Friday Face Off.
