Quilting Update

I have been busy with a lot of things and haven't had much time for art or quilting. However, I did manage to get  Rising Glory 2 quilted. I was very happy that the machine worked flawlessly AND that my muscle memory for quilting is still strong.  Here is the result.
I decided to mimic the shapes in the bottom with the stitching to add more motion to that area.
Then I did pebbles (circles) in the top area to mimic the globes.
I believe in the original piece, that I quilted all of the background with pebbles.

One of my "throwback" memories today was this young man in Mexico who dresses as an angel.  He shows up in the town square for "Sunday in the Plaza" (the town square.)

Since I have added his face I will link to the

I hope those of you in the US who celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful day.

Rising Glory - Second in a series

Back in 2013,  I made a piece that eventually got the name "Rising Glory."  That piece was sold during the Library Quilt Exhibit in Spring 2023.  I wanted to do something similar, but different, as an homage to that piece.  The original piece was not planned for size.  However this time I planned a size to fit a canvas so that I can mount this eventually.

I used part of a hand dyed gradient from ColorwaysbyVicki as the background. Then I chose some other hand dyed fabric for the elements on this one.  At this point, I don't like it as much as the original, but I have much more work to do on it.
For now, the elements are layered on the background with fusible web (MistyFuse.)
I will need to layer a backing piece and some batting so that I can begin quilting, and
perhaps some thread painting.  I could possibly add other element as I go.
At this point, it is "all a grand experiment" and just for fun.

Hummingbird Redux

One of the favorite quilts I have made is the Hummingbird wallhanging quilt.  It is not "squared up" so it would never win an award for quilt-making.  And yes, I am fine with that.  I LOVE this quilt.  It hangs on my bedroom wall and makes me smile every day.
First let me show you a closeup of the center.
I think he has a lovely face. The white highlight in the eye as added with paint. Every other part of the center is hand-dyed fabric or thread.

The outer circle is a batik bias tape.  And the four corners are purchased solid fabrics.
This photo does NOT do this quilt justice.
Here is a closeup of some of the quilting.

As the hummingbird has a face I am linking up with Nicole at DVArtist for the Friday FaceOff.
I am hoping that she will be well enough to post the Face Off this week.
