FFO 3-28-25

This week has been busy. I have been helping my cousin pack up all of my aunt’s things to move her to Pennsylvania. It has been quite a task. They leave today.

For the Face Off, I have created a couple of AI images using my phone.

Once again, I was testing what I could achieve using words to create a picture. These were the best of what I was describing.

Happy Friday!

Quilt Parade SAHRR

Many of you know that I have been participating in a Stay At Home Round Robin.  My quilt is almost completed.  The top is finished, layered and quilted.  The binding is made and attached to the front of the quilt.  I will be sewing the binding to the back by hand this week.  I am excited to be so close to finishing this quilt.

Here is the completed quilt top.
The quilt top is all made of batik fabrics from Island Batik.  The backing is a solid fabric that was in my stash.  For the binding, I had an idea to use a batik that I have, but when I auditioned it I didn't like it with the front OR the backing.  So, back into the stash where I tried several other fabrics that didn't seem to play well with one side or the other.  Then I picked up a piece of Kaffe Fassett fabric that I have been "hanging onto."  It looked perfect.  I quickly cut off enough (there is only about 10" by width of fabric left.)  I cut it into strips and made a binding.  It is sewn onto the front of the quilt ready to be stitched to the back - and yes, I will be doing it by hand!  (a rarity for me.)
Here you can see it with part of the front:
You may notice that I quilted it with a blue thread that really shows up on the front
of the quilt. I think that it ties the quilt together and adds an'
extra layer of design. And it is just fun!
Here is the binding with the backing:
The blue quilting thread is not as obvious on the backing.  However.  the texture
will show beautifully once the quilt is washed.

FYI,  I don't know what time the parade will open so you may see this before her post is live.

Friday Faces

This has been a bit of a busy week and so I have some AI faces created on my phone to share with you.

I enjoyed playing with the AI creator on my phone while I was staying with Mom one afternoon. (She was asleep.)

For Nicole

This one is mostly because I wanted to see what I would get if I said "riding on a camel"

And my face from the only television commercial I have been in.

Happy Friday!

Faces FFO

Hi there.  It has been a busy week.  I have more to do than I can get done some days.  I have my quilt top basted with batting and backing and it is ready to start quilting on - IF I can only find the time in a day.

Meanwhile,  last week when I was "down with a cold"  I decided to play with some air dry clay that I saw at the local discount store.   There is no brand name on it, it simply says "Air dry clay."  Since the price was only a dollar, I snagged a package.  My play time was spent making a couple of little faces. I was planning on a couple of serene faces like my friend Nicole makes (just below the onion photos on this post)

Mine did NOT come out serene and lovely.
Ah well.

While I was taking that photo above,  I spotted a sketch book. Looking through the few pages that had been used, I found another face.

I call him "Toothy"

And then I saw this sketch page and decided to share it with you.
The lower part was a study for a possible abstract painting.
I think if I painted it, it would need to be simplified.

It is a Quilt Top - SAHRR

After much time spent thinking and moving blocks I have determined how to integrate the kite blocks into the upper portion of my quilt.

With some “quilter magic,” I was able to arrange the components in a configuration that harmonizes well. At this time, I am deciding whether I want to leave the quilt in its current state or add additional outer borders to enlarge it.  If I add the borders I will have to determine what fabric to use for those borders.  That will require some auditioning and more time thinking about what I want from this quilt

Stay at Home Round Robin Update and FFO

Today I sewed some blocks and added to some blocks also.  The small section of the kites were already sewn, but I upsized the blocks to the 8" size of the other blocks in the quilt. There are eight of them.
They aren't that exciting right now. But they will certainly work in the quilt top.
Next I sewed some simple blocks after being inspired by a Veteran's quilt made by Vicki's mom.
Actually she made two of them and they look very different. When I saw that simple block, I said to myself "I can use that for the spaces I need to fill in my quilt top."
It is really square....forgive my poor photo skills. I made six of these.

With those blocks and the existing partial log cabin blocks below I will have enough to finish this quilt top.

I will be posting the quilt top later.  I have to say that I am very happy with it. I may add some side borders later, but for now it is finished.

For the face off I have one of my digitally created pieces.
