Friday Face Off

For the first Friday Face Off of the year,  I am sharing a couple of AI creations and the start of what I hope will be my entry for the portrait challenge.

First up is one that I like BUT it is a "failure" as an AI self portrait.
I don't think it looks very much like me.  It is however a very interesting portrait.

Next up is another portrait I created on Night Cafe.  I am not sure if I have ever shared this one.
I am sharing her today because she will be the basis for my entry into the Portrait Challenge.

I have used a print out of this one to create a tracing onto watercolor paper.
I did make some artistic changes in the tracing.
I will likely make more changes once I start painting .
If you look closely,  you may notice that many of the angles have become curves.
This tracing is a bit faint because I used the printout with the oil pastel tracing trick that
Nicole shared on this post.  This happens to be the third use of the same print. In a few places
I did have to add a bit more pastel to get a line.  For the most part it worked well.
I am planning to paint this is acrylics, simply because it is easier to correct mistakes. Ha ha.

Have a Happy and Creative New Year

Until Next Time,
Stay Creative

I can see bits of you in the first one Gene. I like the modern effect. Happy 2026 to you. I hope you have a wonderful year ahead.

OK my friend. First off that first AI is stellar. It may not be a self portrait, but there is so much action going on in his face and the background. His eyes and that cheeky little smile conveys a lot of emotion. Take that word failure away please. I do like the angles of on the woman. She is strong and I think formidable. I'm thrilled that you are using the tracing method and then making it your own. You are such a clever artist. I can't wait to see her finished. Save her for Jan 30 LOL I hope all is well over there and thank you for sharing with FFO.

Gene, your AI portraits are stellar! I really need to try out this tracing method, it looks easy enough in the video. Now I need to look for my oil pastels... Happy new year!

I can’t compete with AI, just not my thing, I guess. But I predict yours are always winners! 😊

Your blue eyes in the first image are so compelling, Gene, that I hardly see the rest of the image. It will be fun to see how your portrait develops. Wishing you health and happy creating in the new year!

I can see a bit of you in the first AI piece. Maybe it's the eyes?

Even a “failed” self-portrait teaches, and the tracing you’ve prepared shows patience and care, turning digital ideas into something tangible and personal. Creativity is in the process, not just the result.

I’ve shared a new post about moments like this. You’re invited to read it.
