First the laugh! Yesterday, Marlene expressed her disdain for figs based on the horrid fig newtons my dad ate. I totally relate to that. Here is what I told her "Ha ha... I always ALWAYS thought I hated figs because Fig Newtons are NASTY. (in my humble opinion) But then, they came out with Strawberry Newtons - and I LOVE strawberries! I ate one and nearly barfed. It was as bad as the Fig Newtons.
So finally, in my late 30s/early 40s, I finally tried a fresh fig. It was delicious.
Moral of the story: Don't blame the fig; blame the Newton!
I hope that makes you laugh as much as I laughed over it when I wrote it in reply to Marlene.
For the record, I still think Fig Newtons are disgusting.
Now, the surprise:
Yesterday I mentioned a "mystery UPS package" --it arrived after 5 pm yesterday - I think UPS reads my blog and wanted to prolong my suspense. Inside was a lovely bundle of Fat Quarters - eight in all. It was tied with a sheer golden ribbon that I want to save and use for something...but it is in a knot so I will probably have to cut it into a couple of pieces.
You know I had to open it and see all the pretties:
The collection is named Bear Paws by Cheryl Haynes for Benartex Fabrics. This will add to my collection of fat quarters.
It seems like I should be sewing doesn't it?

Lovely fabrics! Re: Fig Newtons, we like them, although I agree with you about Strawberry Newtons.
Here's a random fact about Fig Newtons...from Sheldon on "Big Bang Theory", they were named after a town in Massachysetts, not Sir Isaac Newton!
I love fig newtons but can't abide real figs! Variety is the spice of life, indeed!
I hate fig newtons too!! I've turned down fresh figs cause of them. So maybe I'll have to give them a chance??!!
Nice win!!
I've never had the courage to try a fresh fig - you are a brave man
Thank you UPS Person!! Great fabrics. My husband loves Fig Newtons. I hate all things Newton. BUT, when I was young back in the 50s my older brother married a girl of Syrian decent. Her mother made the most wonderful baked goods with figs and dates. I have loved them ever since.
xx, Carol
I don't think fresh figs are available here in BC. I've only seen them sold dried. I'll have to take your word for it that the fresh ones are good. I suppose it could be like the difference between a plum and a prune.
Great fabrics! You must have one helluva stash.
First visit to your blog, and chuckling over your Fig Newton issue. Fresh figs are delicious. I've now found fig jam, it is so good! Nice colors in your bundle of fabric, but waiting until 5 -- no fun!
I love fresh figs, too. As for the Newtons, they are ok if there's no other option! I think the UPS guy in my neighborhood enjoys placing my packages in little hiding places around my house...;/
I was always partial to Fig Newtons as a kid, but I'm not so fond of them as an adult. I did find an organic multi-grain version (of a fig cake/cookie) recently that is really yummy, though! And those are lovely fabrics - can't wait to see what you do with them! Whoop whoop!!
I love it! Don't blame the fig... that is perfect.
Gorgeous fabrics.
