The Washout!

Tuesday's post was all about dyeing a  skein of yarn for weaving.  So how did the washout go?

One of the main things I was concerned about was the fabric under the weaving thread skein.  It is part of a 60% Cotton/40% polyester fabric.  The polyester part won't take the dye - I knew that going in.  So what would happen?  Wait and see!
The other concern was that the skein would get tangled after the rinse, wash, rinse again part. Not to mention that I also prefer to then put the dyed goods in the washing machine to finish it off.  I decided to put the yarn skeins in a mesh lingerie bag for the trip through the washing machine.  The bag was a little large, so I tied the top of it to leave less room for the yarn to move around.
I am a bit of a daredevil, so I do this wash with sock and underwear.  My thought is that most of the loose dye is gone so I won't have pink underwear or socks - I hope!   But if so, big deal!  I can bleach them or maybe dye them wild colors later.
Washing out in the sink.
You can't see it in the photo, but the water was a red tone.

The washout is a success!  I have two lovely skeins of palindrome dyed cotton and rayon yarn for making a warp for my loom.  (Rayon is a cellulose fiber as is cotton so the same dye works for both.)

I also have some glorious fabric that I can use for quilting or whatever. I just need to remember it is not 100% cotton.

Then there is this purple piece that is for a friend.  For it, I used 100% cotton fabric.

I am proclaiming this a big WIN for the dyeing session.

What are you winning at this week or month?

I am linking this up to Lily Pad Quilting's Cabin Fever Party.

Fabric and skeins both dyed up beautifully. How about the underwear and socks. Are they a pretty rainbow spectrum too? ;-)
