My Adventure

I had not been on a vacation in several years, so it was time for a break.  My Mom has dementia and I am one of her two caregivers.  My brother, the other caregiver,  had taken vacations. It was time for me to get away.
Back in August a friend and I started planning a cruise. It was a twelve day cruise from Jacksonville, Fl to several islands in the Caribbean.  While I have been on a Caribbean cruise three other times (long ago) this time all the places we went to were new to me.  I confess that I didn't take pictures on every island.

I had a great time.  We visited: Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Tortola BVI, St Kitts,  St Martin, St Thomas USVI, and San Juan Puerto Rico (not necessarily in that order.)
Here are a few pictures.

Bloody Point St Kitts

Playita del Condado - San Juan

Plaza de Maestro -honoring the Puerto Rican Teacher

Cannons at the Fortress St Kitts

The Wake behind the ship was mesmerizing.

...Gene, you can't take care of others unless you take care of yourself!!!

Everyone needs a vacation. Doesn't have to be exotic, just time away and recharge. Good for you that you did it.

I'm glad you were able to take some time for yourself, Gene. That was a nice itinerary. I've visited all of those places on various cruises. You look so relaxed in the photos. When is the next one? LOL.

It sounds like the perfect winter getaway Gene. And I bet you had a lot of fun. My Mother and her sister were caregivers for my grandmother, and so even though I didn't have to care for her, I saw all the work that involves. I bet the break was well needed and refreshing your spirit. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing these fun photos.

I looks and sounds like you had a good time. Yes, being a caregiver, one needs to get away. The batik is lovely. The welcome sign is a reminder of the massacre there. Although I like the sign. Wow! a phone booth. Did the phone work? Truly beautiful photos but I like seeing you the best of all. Thank you for sharing some of your trip with FFO and have a very nice weekend. Oh, my family lives in Jacksonville.

What a fab cruise! Glad you got away on a vacation, I'm sure the break did you a lot of good. It's very demanding and draining to be a caretaker. I love those blue mirrored sunglasses you're wearing in the presidents photos! So cool!

Well, I think you are brave to travel in the Caribbean while our "it" president is sending the Navy there just because he thinks he can. But, all is well, I presume. Your pictures are awesome and cool that you got your picture with two Presidents (good ones, not like our current aberration). And, I agree, you do deserve a vacation. I am sorry that your mother has dementia. It makes things hard for you and for her. I wish her well ...

Thanks for sharing your photos, Gene! The Caribbean is an area I'd like to see more of. You do deserve a vacation. I'm sorry that your mother has dementia. It's a horrible disease. I'm sure you take excellent care of your mom. Please take care of you!

It sounds like you needed it and thoroughly enjoyed it. All the best caring for your mother. It can be hard.

What an amazing adventure. I love how you mixed relaxing moments with exploring history and local culture. That sunrise over the islands is breathtaking did you have a favorite stop, or was it all equally memorable?

Gene, I'm glad that you took a vacation. Especially as a caregiver you really need times to rest. I have never been to the Carribean, but think of it as a fascinating area. Maybe one day. For now, I'm enjoying your pictures. My favorite is the top one and the ones of you and the two presidents.
