Face Off -Extra Portrait and some collage

There are many forms of art that I love to play with.  For example,  I enjoy painting - usually in abstract or non-representational form.  But, as today, sometimes I drift into more of a representational style.

For the Friday Face Off,  I have an "extra" portrait from the portrait challenge.   I simply couldn't stop until I tried painting one of the faces on a canvas.   So here he is.
I  used the same guy as the one in the portrait challenge.  But, I changed him a bit.

During the last week or so, I watched a couple of classes on collage.
Then a few days later, I started playing with collage.
The first piece started with a drawn line on the mat board drop out that I used as a background.  Then I started using pieces that I cut out of a couple of "failed" paintings. (hint, I never throw those away)

Then the next piece is using vintage magazine pieces on another piece of mat board.

And finally two more using cut up paintings.
There are a couple of pieces of that vintage magazine in this one also.
Note, that piece in the background is one of the paintings I was cutting up.

Yes, these are a bit "weird"  but I like them
Have a great week.

You can really paint a face Gene. It came out great. And I love playing with collage too, and yours is amazing. I love how you cut up failed pieces to make some of collage pieces. Happy weekend ahead.

Amazing! I really like your artwork! Wonderful portrait! I also really like the paper cut outs! I might have to give it a try! I have a few pieces that i don't really like and I might just cut them up and make something with them. Very inspirational. Have a wonderful and creative weekend!

Wow Gene! This painting is suburb! Those blue eyes pop and the skin tone is beautiful. Great proportions too. In fact the longer I look at it the more I see. That background actually supports your subject and creates a beautiful visual. Well done my friend. As for the collages. Be still my heart. These are magnificent. Weird Yeah, artistic imagery that is well observed with striking visual intent. I would love for you to share these and the classes in SITAR if you are inclined. I think the other's would like to see these classes. I know I would. Thank you Gene, for your art and a continual support for FFO and have the best weekend ever.

I love those colors and shapes you did for your collage. They remind me of some of Kandinsky's work. Thanks for your kind words on my blog, and blessings!

The portrait is really nice, Gene. He looks so sweet. The collage pieces look like a lot of fun. I love that you keep what you consider failed proejcts and recycle them into new pieces of art.

Your post makes me want to dig out the only portrait I can recall ever painting some years ago. I will try to find it. Yours is inspiring!
The collage pieces are such fun. I once enjoyed trying small collage quilts in my sewing days. I miss working with that design. Maybe I’ll try it again with paper or whatever doesn’t need sewing! 😀

Wow, I love how fearless you are with your art! The extra portrait has such personality. I’m curious, did changing him spark a new story in your mind? And those collages are fantastic, there’s something so magical about turning “failed” pieces into completely new creations. Do you have a favorite among them? I hope your weekend is filled with inspiration and playful creativity. I just shared a new travel post too, and you’re invited to peek: www.melodyjacob.com.
