Paul Klee - Artist

I have several favorite artists. At the top of my list are Van Gogh and Monet.  However, two others have always intrigued me also:  Paul Klee and Vasily Kandinsky.  These two were a part of the Bauhaus movement in Germany (1919-1933.)  In some paintings their styles are very similar.  They worked together and in fact lived close to each other.  Thus each influenced the style of the other.

Today I want to share with you this painting by Klee.
The semi-abstracted face  speaks to me.  I love the way Klee used a simple line and shading to create the nose. I am thinking of using that idea for one of my quilted faces. I love the abstracted glasses also.
I wonder if the big red drop is supposed to be a tear - and if so, why was she shedding a tear?

I have started a sculpted face using paper clay but it does take that some time for drying. That is especially true while it is rainy with high humidity here in Alabama.

I have been quilting on a project, Here is a photo of the back of one section.  As I was quilting it, I thought,  "I am not sure I like this."  When I saw the back, I suddenly saw how intriguing it is.
Yes there are some small flaws in that - so don't look too closely.

**Tom, in the first comment mentioned that it looks like Zentangle art.
I was doing a lot of Zentangle drawings at one time.  Another friend commented that I should start quilting as "they all look like quilting designs."  And thus the circle goes round.

Thanks to the face by Paul Klee,  I am linking this to the Friday Face Off hosted by Nicole at  DVArtist  Clicking the link will take you to her blog.  It is great fun to see how various people interpret the challenge.

Oh, your paper-drama reminds of the times when I studied. I mostly always had parchment paper on my machine and told my flatmates: No hanging wet clothes into my room then!!! Guess...

Your quilting looks wonderful!

Love the face from Paul Klee. A couple of years ago I cut up some prints of his paintings and rearranged and changed them. It was great fun! Hugs, Valerie

I love this art by Klee and Kandinsky is one of my faves as well. You are too hard on yourself. Flawssss ha ha ha, NONE. Oh, a 2 lb block of white DAS clay is on sale on Amazon. I have no craft stores anywhere close to me but I know Michael's has it too even less expensive. I know you wanted to give it a try. Thanks for joining FFO and have a nice day.

I thought you were quilting a whole cloth at first glance and thought it was very pretty.

Klee's face is a great source of inspiration - I'm looking forward to seeing your quilted version. Your stitching reminds me of Zentangle, too - keep going - ;))

I love when I learn from a blog post, and I often do here. Thanks, Gene! I couldn’t help thinking to-yos for eyes if you replicated those eyes in fabric. Oh, and your quilting looks stellar! Id say it’s a bit of McTavishing feeling. Excellent!

At times the lines were blurred between Paul Klee's and Vasily Kandinsky's art and at other times, it was easy for me to tell a Kandinsky because of his abstract circles and swishes. I really like this painting you chose and I look forward to seeing the front of your current quilt.

I love your quilting and I can't see the flaws. Love the Paul Klee face you chose. Back in 2017 I was lucky enough to go to the Paul Klee museum in Bern Switzerland and it was well worth a visit.
