I had my camera with a zoom lens and was chasing along taking photos. Here is a photo that I took that year with my good old Pentax film camera.
Yes, of course the Grand Marshall for the parade was none other than Dolly Parton.
As she was going by, I yelled out "Hey, Dolly! I never saw a fox riding on a lion before."
She laughed delightedly and said "I never thought of it that way!"
Rest in Peace, dear lady.

What a fabulous tribute and memory for you. Dolly will truly be missed, especially for her Imagination Library where she donates book to children up to the age of five. I was exposed to books early, so I know how that influenced me to read. I was ahead of every class I took in grade/grammar school and it was because my grandparents (who raised me from birth) gave me new books every week. Thank you again for sharing this. I will miss her, too.

This is such a lovely bit of history to have captured on film, and the fact that you still have the photograph 36 years later makes it even more special. I can just imagine you running along with your Pentax and zoom lens trying to get the perfect shot, then calling out to Dolly and getting that wonderful response from her. “I never saw a fox riding on a lion before” is exactly the kind of spontaneous comment that makes a moment memorable, and the fact that she laughed and played along with you makes the story even sweeter.
