Playing In EQ7

There are some fascinating things in EQ7 (Electric Quilt) that are not readily obvious if you learned on an earlier version - unless you are an "digital explorer" as I tend to be.   I was curious about setting a "Storm at Sea" quilt.  So, I started digging and researching.  What I discovered is that there are quilt projects built into EQ7.  Like this one:

Of course this is my re-colored version of the EQ7 layout.  I call it "Hearts at Sea"  You may notice that I used batiks for recoloring the quilt. I found that some manufacturers have fabric libraries you can download. I will tell you more and give a link or two at the end of the post - but I don't want you to wander away before you finish reading this.

So how does one find the built-in quilt patterns?  When you first open EQ7 you see a tip - unless you clicked the "don't show this at startup" box.  Then you see this window that lets you start a new project OR open an existing project OR - the one I had totally ignored - Start with a Quick Quilt project.

So, if you click on the Quick Quilt tab, as I have done in the photos here.  You will see the list of possibilities

So click on one arrow through the possibilities in each one.  They all have more than one.  There is even a table runner collection. 

How fun is that?

  I promised to tell more about the fabric libraries. There are also free monthly libraries on the Electric Quilt site.  The cool part is that you can get past libraries for free also.
