Quilt Festival -my favorite quilt

Amy at Park City Girl is holding a online quilt festival. So of course I am entering. Did I mention that there are prizes? Yeah, so you should go enter too.

My favorite quilt, is the first one I ever made. I gave it to my niece to take with her to college. Actually, I made it just for her. I used a few different block patterns, most of them easy since I was so new at it. I think it came out great. At the time, I thought I could free motion quilt a big quilt like that on the little machine I had at the time. After ripping out a few attempts- and approaching a deadline - I tied this quilt. Yes, I know that some people like to play "quilt police" and will say that it isn't a quilt. BUT IT IS.

Quilt First One Side

I still think it is lovely.

Edited to add: Yes my niece loves it. It stays on display in her dorm room and has been to a picnic on the beach. (I made it to use so I am glad to see that she is using it.)

A tied quilt is a quilt! I hope she cherishes it and the love you sewed into it.

As long as a quilt is loved it is a quilt. It's beautiful!!

It's so cheerful! My first quilt is tied, too... for the very same reason! And according to the Webster's dictionary a quilt is "a bed coverlet of two layers of cloth filled with padding (as down or batting) held in place by ties or stitched designs". So I'd say... it's a quilt! ~ Jennie

It's a wonderful QUILT, Gene. I think that was an extremely nice thing for you to do for your niece. I love the way that turned out....the colors AND the block patterns you used.

The quilt is great and oh so special. I am sure your niece knows that, and how lucky she is. I am going to start soon (any day now) a memory T-Shirt quilt for my Grandson Anthony who goes to college in Sept. Keep your fingers crossed.

What a gorgeous quilt, I love those colours, and for your first one, fantastic! Who cares if its tied, its a valid quilting technique and its finished! Great quilt!

Love the quilt. I enjoy the concept of people using my quilts not displaying them.

What a great quilt for a special girl. I'll bet that college was alot less scary when she covered up with that quilt. Take care Gene!

Definitely a quilt. My first quilt was tied also but it doesn't look anywhere near this nice. Beautiful colors.

I love the look of tying! so comfy and "granny looking." I love the "used" quilts, also! no wonder she loves it!

you did a lovely job. Great colours. Damn those quilt police, who are they to tell me that you shouldn't use orange in a quilt.
