A post over at Ardea's Nest clicked with me. You see she got a crocheted dish cloth in a swap. Now I have to confess that I wash dishes by hand. My favorite dish cloth frequently goes straight from the dryer back into service. It happens to be knitted and was a gift to me from a sweet young lady. I have considered hiring her to make me a few more dish cloths.
Now, let me say: I don't knit. I tried it a couple of times and never could seem to "get it" However, I can crochet without thinking much about what I am doing. I have no idea why it never occurred to me that I could crochet a dish clothe and it would be very similar. Duh!
So when I saw the crocheted dish cloth on the post, I said "Hey, I could do that" The dish cloth in the post that gave me a lightbulb moment was a "granny square" I prefer something more uniform in texture. So I made this:
I didn't worry about it being exactly even along the edges or the stitches being even tension either. I made it while I was watching a television episode I had recorded. (Okay, it was House, MD - I can't help it, it is the one show I watch regularly) I sped thru the commercials, so this probably took 45 minutes or less. I will be riding with a co-worker to a meeting tomorrow, so I may just take some yarn and my crochet hook and make another one while we are on the road.

Double crochet? I used to crochet a lot. It hurts my wrists now but every so often I bite my lip and do it anyway.LOL I won some on a blog give-away and they are very ice.
I love to crochet (and knit, cross stitch, embroider)and have made some dish cloths. Aren't they fun and easy to do?
I love HOUSE, love, love......I so should make these.....I use my favorite sponge/cloth from Wal-m**t..and they've stopped carring them. I have two left and sooo don't know what I'll do.......
I love how fast dish cloths are to make. They are perfect to practice different stitch patterns. They are so useful too. I have a nice size stack of knit and crochet dishcloths.
Funny, I can knit but can't crochet! So I've knitted some dish cloths, they are the best no matter how they are made. I use Sugar 'n Cream cotton yarn, perfect for these absorbent cloths.
I wash dishes by hand too, which boggles the mind of my visitors who see my poor neglected dishwasher. Just habit, I guess. Love the crocheted dishcloth.
I've never crocheted at all. But, I will tell you, several ladies of my church crochet strips of tulle into a tight circle as dish scrubbers. They are the best scrubbers in the world!!
Love it!! My Mom made me some & I use them in the shower! LOL
I was able to knit 2 items, in the early '80's, that I still have and wear. I have never been able to wrap my brain around knitting since!! Crochet all the time - a dishcloth is a great idea!! I love old linen dish cloths, collect and use them all the time, but I think I NEED one like this!!!
Great idea. I love to crochet because it does allow you to watch tv and not have to think about what you are doing - well not much anyway. Love the blue you used!
Good for you, Gene! You'll smile everytime you pull it out!
How fun....and who cares if it is not straight, it is for dishes....a great practice project....and great job!
