These crumb blocks are very addictive. I am using up scraps and pieced bits that I just can't seem to toss in the bin. Friday afternoon and evening I made ten more of these fun little blocks. There are no rules except to have an adequate seam allowance. Sometimes I take a strip and place it diagonally across a pieced section, sew the rough quarter inch seam and them trim. Then I decide if the trimmed piece goes back on the other side of the strip - or is used for another piece altogether.
When a "chunk" is large enough, I cut out a 5 inch square. (You can decide on the sizes YOU want to make yours.) If the parts that are trimmed away are large enough to use, they go back in the piecing pile. If they are too small, I put them in the bin.
What I love best about these is how random the piecing looks.
This batch of ten puts me over halfway to having enough of the crumb blocks for the setting I am using. I think I will have to decide on background fabric soon.

Yes they are addictive!
Yes they are! They're like potato chips - you can't have/make just one - LOL. It will be interesting to see which color(s) you decide to use for your "background" - ;))
I like the variety you get with random crumbs. I have a feeling those would go with any color background.
Gene, I got it done, very simple but it’s a start. Now I can follow so much more easily from my new blog!
Now, these crumb blocks are something I know about, but had a hard time making. There was a lady in a former guild who we called the “Queen of Crumbs”. It was incredible how small a scrap she found a way to use. I admired them so much, and I tried to make them, but ended up being satisfied with larger scraps that worked making string blocks. No matter how large the scraps are, it’s very satisfying to use them. Yes, definitely addicting!
Oh you give me hope. I pulled out one of my bins of crumbs and will be ready to start my own crumb quilt when all my travels are done.
Wonderful and colorful crumb blocks. I am addicted to making them too. About 2-3 times a year I grab my crumb bin and spend a few days sewing, pressing, and trimming. Crumb blocks are great for when my crafting mojo has fled the coop. A couple days pf sewing crumbs never fails to get me excited about sewing again.
