Weaving Art

(((If you are looking for the Craftsy Class Giveaway click here! Open until March 16. )))

Today, Saturday, was a good day to make a couple of videos.  One reader had asked that I show how I use my Lacis Yarn Ball Winder.  So I made a short simple video show that process.  You can watch it if you are interested.

I had also put a warp on my Kromski Rigid Heddle loom to experiment with art weaving. This was inspired by my visit to HanDen Studios for a class on Saori weaving.
We also did a rather lengthy video showing the weaving process with a clasped weft and adding inclusions for interest in the weaving.  You can watch it also, although, I confess it is more than nine minutes long.

I did finish weaving the piece and here is how it looks at this point.
And a few close-ups.

This was a  fun way to play with weaving, although it is MUCH faster on the Saori loom.

Comments are welcomed. I will reply when possible unless otherwise stated.

I'll be sure to check out your videos Gene. I love your new piece, sort of looks like running paint...just way cooler :)

Oh, Gene, this weaving is wonderful! I love the design!

(I have a ball winder...some of the best money I ever spent!)

I agree with Jeanna...running paint, but I'm also reminded of colorful scenes in a coral laden sea. :)

This is just beautiful Gene! You make the weaving process seem so calming. You call this an art piece but would you use it as a wearable scarf or only a decorative type piece?

Beautiful weaving! I was wanting to see one of the yarn winding gadgets so thanks for the video. I buy those giant cotton cones and wind them into a ball that rolls around. This would be better. I only knit dishcloths as a portable project and have some different colors that will need to be wound. I am a beginner at knitting. Will probably want to try scarves eventually so may get one of these things to wind off yarn into balls.

Thanks for the tutorial on the yarn winder. I need to get one before I need to wind any more yarn.
All of the looks you are getting with your weaving are just fasinating.

I enjoyed the tips you gave on weaving. I wondered how a person could change the color of the weft.
