As you can see, I added colored fabric for his hair (batik fabrics) and for his eyes (hand dyed fabrics.)
I used a variegated thread for adding color to both his hair and facial hair.
I think that added some subtle but interesting color movement.

I think that added some subtle but interesting color movement.
Below you can see the beginnings where I started with only black thread.
I did the outline and quilted the beard and eyebrows all in black.
Once I added the batiks for the hair, it was quickly obvious that I needed to add some color to both sew down the batik and to make the beard match the hair.
My hope is that I succeeded in that effort.

I am currently preparing for an exhibition locally. In that, I will be exhibiting many of my quilts along with some of my paintings. Most of the quilted faces I have created will be included in the exhibit.
However, due to the time involved with this effort, I may not have new faces for the next few weeks. But I hope to share some older faces in the face off

That stitched beard is a great idea Gene. I like how you chose the variegated thread. The whole face came out great! Happy weekend.
This is just fabulous and so much work. Fun work though. FFO is up I had the wrong day on the link up. Thanks for joining in.
He may be cartoon-like but he is quite dapper! Neat hair style and trimmed beard, handsome. Good luck with the exhibition (not that you need it)!
This is another great one.
Oh, I hope you share pics of your exhibition!!!!
I wish you fun and success!
Your today's face is really amazing, Gene, I love it!
Happy new year and weekend xx
Good work! All the best with your exhibition!
Another wonderful face! I like how you used the variegated thread to highlight his hair and match his beard - very creative! Have fun with your exhibit - I'm sure it will be a success - ;))
I really like it! You have done well! The variegated thread definitely moves it up a level.
Nice face. Enjoy your exhibition.
This is fabulous and I already have two caricatures of my FH and myself that would make a perfect Christmas present for next year. I know you are oh so busy, but if I email them to you now you will have all year to put something together. Just say the word ... and good luck with your show. I know everyone will love your work, you are so talented. Happy New Year, Gene ...

I'm always fascinated by your quilted faces. I can't even draw a proper face, much less stitch one.
I dye most of my fabric, too. I use natural dyes. I love how you used your dyed fabric and how you chose variegated thread to create the face and beard. Good luck with your show. It sounds like you have a great plan.
A fascinating face!
