This looks like a fun pattern! I'd probably use a light gray background and lots of different fabrics from my stash. I don't have a collection of Asian fabrics anymore, but I do have one or two left. I'd probably start with the few I have and pick others that compliment them. Thanks for the chance'

I love the black background. And would use festive and shiny colors for the lanterns

Gene your pattern and choice of colors are great! Please don't enter me as I might not get to your pattern until I'm 89 at this point. I love your work and admire your generosity.

Hugs,
Kelly

I love how it looks like stained glass with the colors you choose! I think I'd do mine with a cream background and red pink lanterns. sarah@forrussia.org

Hmmmm...I am loving it just the way you have it here...black tone on tone with maybe brights or batiks!

Well - it has to be nighttime for the lanterns to show up - right? Definitely batiks - maybe color graduation from night sky to night at ground level (lighter when you look up graduating to darker batiks as you get closer to the ground).
Off to Japan in five days. Love the quilt but I would never make it so count me out.

I have such a collection of Japanese fabrics (including several actual Yukata cloth pieces) that there would be no question what fabric I would use. As for a background, I'm thinking a royal blue would work with most of my fabrics.

Thank you for the giveaway

Beautiful design Gene. My batik lanterns would most likely be set with a white background. I know, I'm so predictable :)

Great pattern - maybe a grey background (my eyes don't enjoy working with black) with rainbow lanterns!

I have a load of gray fabric and an a great assortment of Denise Schmidt's pinks, greens and blues. They would look great together. thanks for the giveaway.

The black looks great, but I am thinking of a dark blue, maybe a batik with faint striations.

Very cute. I have been wanting to do a lantern quilt with my Liberty tana lawn's with plain double gauze as the background.

Black backgrounds can certainly make colorful fabrics pop, but I have used them sparingly in my quilts. For dark backgrounds I really like navy, charcoal gray or a dark Grunge fabric. I have an assortment of bright funky prints to use.

I think a light background would look nice for spring and I have never used batiks before and would like to try batiks for this pattern.

I like the dark background. Maybe something with the colors that imply the sky at night to highlight the latterns

Thanks so much Gene. I love this pattern and will be making it large enough to fit my king size bed. Thanks also for explaining in the pattern how to increase or decrease the size. I'm thrilled!
