Today I needed a bit of creative playtime again - but I didn't want to work on the brown one as I am still making decisions about the design. There was this nice practice sandwich in my pile ready to go, so I went for it.
Practice has paid off in other areas too. I can travel back over stitching lines much better than I could a few weeks ago.
Now, lets talk about the grid. Do you see the POP of the design? The unquilted squares rise up above the surface, while the quilted squares are pushed down. This creates a great texture.
Another thing you may notice is that my needle is down in this picture:
Why is that? I am trying to decide what I will quilt around the grid design. The opportunities are almost endless.
And finally, here is a close-up of the quilting. I used a chaco-liner to mark the lines. I think it has to be washed out. Sigh! I need a chalk pencil that will brush away for this. Or maybe I could use my tailor's chalk... Now why didn't I think of that earlier!

Gene, you have come so far with fmq. So proud to see the effort and practice pay off for you. You have done all the things taught in class and it shows. well done.
Show you my quilting? Not likely to happen. I could show you my tying though. Lol. All kidding aside, your work is top notch!
Wow, this is great and makes sense now that you've stated it so plainly. Why don't we think of these things sooner.......LOL.....I had a duh moment just this morning.

Now this is how I like my quilting. I love that we can fill up squares, but I like a little bit of "pop" to my quilts, I want to say it's quilted, without it looking as flat as a pancake. You can use Tailors chalk, that's what I use myself, but I mark as I go, because my premarking and then leaving it for awhile, the chalk will wear off and you end up remarking. If you keep the chalk sharp also, you'll get better lines. Best Wishes and keep on FMQing. :)
