I won a package of MistyFuse in the the IHAN (I Have a Notion) 32 days of giveaways. I decided to try a fused appliqué. And just for grins I used my self portrait stamp, printed it out and used it as my pattern. I confess I am a bit "wompy eyed" in it. But hey, this is a first time, okay? Okay then!
After I cut and fused the outline onto the cream fabric, I put some multi color polyester embroidery thread in the machine, dropped the feed dogs and set the stitch to zig zag. I free motioned the outlines and some embellishments.
Here is a detail shot showing the stitching
Thanks to Kelly at IHAN and to the Attached Corporation for giving the prize. I might do some more wild fused appliqué one day.
Oh and thanks to Ricky Tims for the hand dyed fabric that made me so colorful!
PS.. this looks prettier in person. For some reason the photo looks kinda blah.

You are having fun too with your new prize.....that is awesome.
As I've heard said on occasion, what a 'hoot'! Meaning it's very special and loads of fun!
That's pretty cool Gene!
What fun to be able to do this kind of thing.......it helps to be an artist at such times!!!
Interesting technique using MistyFuse. Great job!
I've seen you post on several blogs I follow on a regularly basis and thought I'd take a look at your profile and found your blog. You have a very nice blog and I have enjoyed browsing. I look forward to seeing more of your projects.
I like it. You're very creative and some what crazy, but that makes you unique. Keep up the great work!!
Too fun!! Really like the added stitching, gives it another layer...cool!
What a great self portrait. You are really creative!!!
tee hee I agree your having too much fun!!
This is too cool. I yen for a self-portrait block. I could work it into every quilt I make. I think it would look great next to the sailboats and duckies on baby quilts I make for neighbors.
You left out those adorable dimples!!!!
Great self portrait. Now, I wouldn't have thought of that, but that is what makes you special.

Ohh! Fun project. I won some Mistyfuse at IHAN too, but I was thinking of using it for something much less exciting. Thanks for the inspiration.
