I do use a few pins -for the size shown I used about ten safety pins to hold it in addition to the hairspray. This is how I do almost all of my quilts. The hairspray will wash out of the quilt and is relatively safe.
Extra notes, I always use Warm and Natural or Warm and White all cotton batting for this. The spray doesn't seem to stick well to polyester - not even 80/20 blends.
I used about 10 pins total on it. Four in the corners, four on the sides and two in the middle. It is also much less annoying when free motion quilting.

This is the way I used to do my quilts but with Sullivan's spray. Now the long arm has its own method. Thanks for the video...

Why did I know Aqua Net would be your hairspray choice for this? I used it when I was a teenager. My dad used to call by bangs the big brick wall..haha! Great idea!

Like everyone else, I never thought of using hairspray either. But why not? The darn stuff sticks to everything it gets in contact with... like the bathroom mirror! I never put 2 and 2 together. Super vid. Thank you so much for this great tip and money saver!
I love, LOVE this!! Is there a particular reason you use the Aqua Net? Or will any super-duper holding hairspray do? Gene, this really is brilliant and SO cost effecting. That spray basting stuff costs a pretty penny! And since most of what I do is small, it's the perfect fit for me!! THANK YOU for sharing!!! :)

I've been so busy, I missed this when you posted it! Excellent video!!! I use spray basting exclusively for ALL my quilts, but I never thought of using hairspray! Wonderful idea!! I guess it doesn't hurt the fabric or you wouldn't do it, right? Thank you for this great idea! I know hairspray is much cheaper than spray basting!
Genius! I have used 404 Spray Baste but it is hard on the breathing in a closed area. I have a couple of small quilts I want to baste, and I'm going to give this a try. Thanks for demonstrating in the video. I think my kitchen bar is wide enough to do my quilts. Also I really love that green swirly fabric on the quilt back. It would make gorgeous applique' leaves.
