I have just been totally blown away. Konda, at Moose on the Porch Quilts has chosen my block as the FIRST in the Layer Cake Quilt along. Please GO over there and check it out. You can also download my block instructions while you are there.
My block is called the "Alabama Spinner" I have incorporated a small bit of (shock!) applique. My longtime readers probably just fainted. It is VERY simple applique and I am starting to use a bit of it to spice up my work. However, you can make the block without the applique. You could even fussy cut something for that center square instead. Here is my original version of the block:
Perhaps I am in my "blue and yellow" phase! Ha ha.

The block and colors are very eye catching!! Congrats on your block being chosen!!!!
That is so awesome Gene!! Love the block!
very nice.
Thats a kick butt block...Nice work, I may just have to quilt along on this one!
I think the circle applique is the icing on the cake....aka quilt!
I couldn't wait to make this block for the moose on the porch quilt along. I love the circle in the middle. I hand appliqued it since I like the look of a floating circle. Thanks for the pattern!
I have this printed out ready to get to soon - it's a great block Gene - well done xx
I like that block...won't be doing the quilt-along but probably will do your block. GREAT designing job!!!!
If the applique you mean is the circle done by machine, I disagree that it's very simple. I think making my machine stitch in a perfect circle is very hard! Well done! I like this block a *lot*.
I just love it, Gene!!
I am so glad that you got chosen first!! I can't wait to make my blocks.
My sewing machine broke and is awaiting a part. YIKES. Hand stitch? naw...
I will be quilting along as soon as that part comes in and I can't wait to make your block!
Nice block Gene. I'm not doing the layer quilt along but like the block.
Hope you have a great day. :o}

Gene, you are totally awesome! That's a great block......love it!!!
It IS a wonderful block. I couldn't get my fabric cut quick enough to make it. Loved the applique circle, even if it was outside my comfort zone. Just wouldn't have been the same without it!
I really like your block - the applique is perfect. I'm not fond of applique either, but do wander off into it from time to time. It's a nice place but I wouldn't want to live there.
The applique circle makes the block (and I'm a die-hard piecer). I saw an interpretation of your block on another blog and it was gorgeous! Good work Gene!
It's such a nice block, I enjoyed making it. I actually made two of them! I've used Awesome for the second one

Gene, I just wanted to thank you for sharing this block with us. I just finished mine and posted it to Flickr. I've never made a quilt with triangles, so it was a great learning experience and I discovered that hand piecing before using the sewing machine is my best friend. Thanks again for the great instructions and a great block!
Great block, I love applique and piecing mixed together. I had such fun with the last quilt-along and will be making this one. Thanks for sharing your talent.
I loved your block. The instructions were clear and the results were awesome :)
That is just beautiful!!! I'm heading over to the porch right now.
